A look inside one of the City’s most sustainable new buildings: BCO NextGen enjoy tour of Stonecutter
The British Council for Offices NextGen members recently visited Farringdon to enjoy a tour of the newly opened Stonecutter. The CO—RE team and Associate Director Alex Thorpe hosted members, offering the chance to explore the sustainable workspace. They were joined by Architect John Pritchard, from tp bennett, Associate Director Jack Gedge from Mace and Sustainability Director Duncan Cox from Thorton Tomasetti. Following the tour the attendees sat down to hear more about how central collaboration was to this project, the innovative materials chosen throughout, as well as how the building achieved an ultra-low embodied carbon figure.
Alex Thorpe chaired the panel discussion and shared her thoughts on Stonecutter: “This building will stand here for years to come, but all of us are aware of the stories that happened in the background and all the people that made it become what it is. For me, that’s the big takeaway—the people from the start, all the way through.”
Discussing the initiatives used to ensure low-carbon construction throughout the project, Jack Gedge added: “We looked at every steel member on the structure and asked: where can we source smarter, reduce carbon, and still stay within budget? It wasn’t just about ticking boxes—it was about making meaningful choices that delivered quality without compromise.”
Thanks to all the panel speakers for a fantastic discussion. To read more about Stonecutter, click here or to find out more about the BCO’s Next Gen tours, head to their LinkedIn, here.
